Sharhabil Humieda’s long list of college soccer accomplishments begins with one astonishing feat – he scored the winning goal in four consecutive NAIA District 26 championship matches. Incredible as that was, Barton won five straight district titles from 1980-84.
Habil, as he was known respectfully throughout the district and the Carolinas Conference, was at the forefront of an unprecedented run for our program. He was named All-Conference and All-District all four years under Coach Mike Smith, and MVP of the conference and district his sophomore, junior and senior seasons. As a junior, he was All-South, All-Region and NAIA All-America, followed by an honorable mention All-America performance his senior year.
Humieda is a native of Khartoum, Sudan. He attended El Mutamer High School and at age 15 played for the El Murada Football Club, a first division professional soccer team. He played on the youth national team for two years and competed internationally prior to coming to Wilson. He earned a B.S. degree in medical technology. He was a two-time MVP and won the Kiwanis Club’s Outstanding Male Athlete Award his freshman year.
Following participation on Barton teams that went to the NAIA area playoffs every year, Humieda excelled at the club level with the Barton, Wilson and Raleigh United soccer clubs, playing on five championship teams. Now employed with the Alamance Regional Medical Center as a medical technologist, he has coached numerous youth and prep teams for more than a decade and worked at several camps. He lives in Burlington.
