Bruce Eure, was born Jan 28, 1894, attended AC from 1910 to 1913. He later attended Wake Forest College in Wake Forest, and in 1923 was admitted to the North Carolina Bar.

Born in Spring Hope, Eure came to AC to play on the first baseball team, which took the field in 1911. He was also one of the first if not the first AC athletes to receive a scholarship.

That first team lost only one game while winning 11 under the direction of coach Bunn Hearne.

Eure operated a private law practice in Ayden from 1923-39, and during that time was also the founder and commissioner of the Coastal Plains Baseball League.

Eure, a former mayor and judge, is also a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International. He practiced law for 63 years, having just recently retired. He has also published two books and appeared in numerous copies of Who’s Who. He still attends Whiteville United Methodist Church, where he has taught Bible class for 40 years.

Eure’s wife, Pearl, also served for many years as his secretary.
