Charles “Ned” Liggon is remembered as AC’s most celebrated football player, a member of the Little All-American team in 1948. Liggon, a lifetime Wilson resident, was also a member of the all-state team I high school as he helped Charles L. Coon capture the state championship in 1944. Liggon married the former Marion “Monkey” Driver of Wilson and they had two children, Charles and Catherine. Upon graduation Liggon operated the family business, Five Points Nursery and Floral, and that florist is still operated by the family after 50 years of service to the Wilson Community. Liggon went from Coon to Wake Forest on a football scholarship, but left to serve in World War II with the U.S. Army. He returned from service to complete his education at AC, from which he graduated in 1950.
