Kermit Traylor, Class of 1933, came to AC from Newell, Ala. At 6’6” he was easily the tallest basketball player in the early years of the Atlantic Christian program, and earned All-State honors during his AC career. A religion Major, Traylor continued his education at Vanderbilt University and the University of Chicago before eventually settling in Winston-Salem. He received an honorary doctorate from AC in 1960. Traylor served as pastor in Tuscaloosa, Ala., Portsmouth, Va., Columbus, Ohio and finally the First Christian Church of Winston-Salem. He died just days short of his 63rd birthday in 1974. He and his wife, who years after his death became Mrs. Sam Grist of Washington Park, had two children, Danny and Kathy.
