Bobby Gilmore attended Barton from 1966-1969. While at Barton he lettered in track, tennis, and basketball.

Gilmore grew up in Robbins and Sanford, North Carolina. He attended Sanford High School where his basketball team finished third in the state in 1964 and was a quarterfinalist in 1965. He was named to the All-Conference, All-District and All-East basketball teams, and Most Valuable Player in the district tournament in 1965.

At Barton he was named All-District in 1969. Gilmore was the Carolinas Conference High Jump Champion in 1967 and was the college’s Most Outstanding Athlete in 1969. He played 110 games at Barton with a career-points total of 1724.

After college Robert taught and coached football and basketball in Wilson County Schools from 1969-1970. He taught at Charles B. Aycock High School from 1970-1973 and at Sanford Central from 1973-1986. In 1986 he was named Vice Principal of Broadway Elementary School and in 1990 named Principal of Broadway Elementary School.

During his time he coached two conference basketball championship teams, and had an overall record of 111-25. He coached tennis for six years with a record of 79-29 and football with a record of 60-14-7 with three conference championships.

He is married to a Barton graduate, the former Anne Mallard. They have two children, Todd and Maribeth.
