Danny Thompson played a key role on the tennis team which heralded Atlantic Christian College’s entrance into national prominence. He was one of the college’s first All-American tennis players.

A native of Rocky Mount, N.C., he graduated from Atlantic Christian in 1972 with a bachelor of science degree in health and physical education. He joined the tennis team in 1968 and from that time he distinguished himself by being a member of the All-Conference teams of 1969,1970,1971 and 1972. The teams were also All-District in 1970, 1971.

Thompson was named All-American Doubles with Danny Phillips in 1972. He was District Singles Champion, 1971 and 1972; Conference Single Champion, 1972; District Doubles Champion, 1970,1971,1972; and Conference Doubles Champion, 1970,1971 and 1972.

Thompson and his wife, Shay, make their home in Greensboro.
