Hall of Fame
One of the three living recipients of the Hall of Fame honor, Monroe Fulghum is also the senior member of the entire charter class, having graduated from Atlantic Christian with a degree in social science in 1929. Although his career in baseball lasted beyond college, Fulghum held the school record for points in one game in basketball for years, having scored a then-astounding 39 points against Guilford. He served the Department of Social Sciences in Wilson for 35 years, from which he retired as director in 1970. He and his wife, Margaret, had one daughter, Leah Martin, now of High Point. He also played football at AC and is a lifetime Wilson County resident, having lived in Rock Ridge before college and Wilson since.
