Milton Adams is the third athletic director ushered into the Hall. Adams followed the first such recipient,, M.J. Bird, when he began his term as A.D., a tenure which covered the better part of the 50s. Adams was followed by Ed Cloyd, the other A.D. in the Hall.

Although athletic administration was never Adams’ primary position, he exhibited his expected strong leadership, especially in 1955 when the A.C. basketball team traveled to Kansas City, MO.

Adams served 32 year as business manager for A.C. beginning in 1949. He was promoted to vice president in 1978, and has also served as interim president.

Adam came to A.C. from Newton Grove High School. He is married to the former Sarah Loftin of Kinston and they have four children; Mrs. Anne Bost (34), Mrs. Dale Flowers (32), Joan Smith (30), and John (28).

Adams is a 1937 graduate of A.C. He worked at Bissett’s Drug Store throughout college, moving onto Branch Banking & Trust after graduation. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1946 before taking the assistant cashier’s position with State Bank & Trust of Greenville. In 1949 he returned to A.C., and in 1950 married Sarah.
