GAFFNEY, S.C.-The Barton College women's basketball game moved within one game of first place of the Conference Carolinas standings after pulling off an impressive 75-65 road win at frontrunner Limestone College on Saturday evening.

The Lady Bulldogs (14-6 overall) dominated the first half, 40-21, and then held off a furious rally by the Saints (17-6) to gut out the win in the two teams only regular season meeting this season.

The win by Barton clustered the top-third of the league standings as the top four teams – Limestone (11-2), North Greenville University (11-2), Barton (9-2) and Mount Olive (9-2) – all have two losses in conference play.

Junior guard Faith Hunter scored a game-high 19 points for the Lady Bulldogs. Senior guard Jannetta Robinson and junior Shante Neal both trifled with double-doubles. Robinson recorded 16 points and totaled a team-high nine rebounds. Neal netted 12 points and grabbed eight boards.

Stephanie Hayes led the Saints with 12 points while Kaileigh West contributed a game-high 11 rebounds and a nine points.

Limestone scored the first three points of play before the Lady Bulldogs raced ahead for good with a 13-3 surge that feature four made baskets by Robinson. Neal scored all 12 of her points and Robinson canned 10 of her 16 in the opening period to help Barton into the halftime locker room with a 19-point cushion.

BC led by as many as 21 early in the second half before the Saints put together a 20-6 rally to pull within five points with four minutes left. Junior Janae Jackson stopped the shift in momentum with a three-point play followed by a layup that gave Barton an eight-point lead heading into the final 100 seconds.

Jackson scored all nine of her points and seized all six of her rebounds in the second half to help stymie the Saints comeback efforts. Junior Jolanda Mitchell led the Bulldogs reserves with eight points.

Barton shot 43.3-percent and held Limestone to just 32.9%. The Bulldogs dominated the backboards, 51-39.

Barton next hosts Coker College in a conference clash on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
