Kevin Buczek enters his fourth academic year in 2013-14 asDirector of Athletics Media Relations and Assistant Men's &Women's Golf Coach at Barton College after returning to his almamater in January of 2011.
Buczek begins his 11th year as a head SID after spending sevenand a half years as the lone Sports Information Director for all 20NCAA Division II intercollegiate sports at St. Andrews University(2003-10) prior to returning to Wilson.
Buczek is responsible for the publicity and media relations ofthe Bulldogs Athletics Department along with fellow SID BennyBenton. Buczek and Benton writes, edits, and designs all mediapress releases distributed through the Barton Athletic Departmentand maintains the College's athletics website, manually updating itdaily and providing its written content. Buczek also works closelywith the production of online media guides and game-day programsfor all 16 sports.
In his first year with the Bulldog golf program, Buczekhelped assist the men's squad during a magical season thatculminated with a run at the National Champion. Barton finishedtied for fifth in the 2011 finals after losing in the "EliteEight" to the top-seed in the medal match play quarterfinals. TheBulldogs had a pair of golfers recognized by the All-Americaprogram and BC finished the season with a No. 7 national ranking byboth polls.
In his first two full years at Barton, Buczek guided the Bartonmen's golf program to its 13th and 14th consecutive NCAA postseasonappearances in 2012 and 2013. Barton men's golf finished 2011-12ranked No. 20 and 2012-13 ranked No. 14 in the NCAA Division IIhead-to-head rankings by golfstat.
Barton men's golf has won six collegiate tournaments in hisfirst five semesters assisting the program and has coached a totalof four All-Americans and 10 All-Conference Carolinasselections.
Buczek played golf for the Bulldogs from 1998-2001 and was amember of the 2000 and 2001 squads that began the streak of 14consecutive NCAA postseason appearances.
Buczek had the honor of being part of the first ever women'sgolf team at Barton College in 2011-12 as assistant coach. Buczekis excited with the challenge in helping build the women's programinto a perennial power like the men's squad. Buczek coached anAll-conference performer in each of the programs first two seasonsand was coaching and witnessed the programs first ever individualmedalist honors winner in a collegaite tournament.
In addition to serving as the primary media contact, Buczekoversees all game-day and cumulative statistics for the Bulldogsand reports to both Conference Carolinas and the NCAA.
Buczek, who was been selected to participate with the NCAADivision II Southeast Region Men's Golf Regional Advisory Committee(RAC), currently serves as the chair of the Conference CarolinasSID committee and has done so for nearly 10 years.
Buczek is a voting member for both the NCBWA National andSoutheast Regional Polls and was theofficial scorer at the lastfive NCAA Division II Baseball Championship 'World Series'Tournament (2009, 10, 11, 12, 13) in Cary, N.C. Buczek hasbeen hired as an SID at the 2006 NCAA Division II Men's BasketballEast Regional and the 2010 & 2004 NCAA Division II Men's GolfSoutheast Super Regional while also serving as the host SID atnumerous Conference Carolinas (formally CVAC) Tournaments over thepast 10 years.
Buczek is a member of the College Sports Information Directorsof America (CoSIDA) and North Carolina Collegiate SportsInformation Association (NCCSIA). He has served as the chair of theConference Carolinas SID Committee for numerous years.
Buczek graduated from Barton in 2001 with a Bachelor of Sciencedegree in Sports Management. The Hope, New York, native spent fouryears as a work-study for former SID and golf coach John Hackney,who coached Buczek for three years on the Bulldogs golf team.
