WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (17-9, 13-5) fell to Chowan (13-8, 11-6) as time ran out, 56-53, Wednesday evening in a Conference Carolinas contest at Wilson Gymnasium.
Chowan's Yasmine Brown (Suffolk, Va.) hit the game-winning three-pointer as the buzzer sounded to lift the visitors to the win. Brown finished with a team-high 18 points as Chowan swept the season series from Barton.
Barton sophomore guard
Layne Sleight (Jackson, Mich.) led all scorers with 21 points and hit the fourth of her treys with three seconds left to tie the contest at 53-all before Brown's heroics.
Barton, however, shot just 29 percent (18-of-62) from the field while Sleight was the lone Bulldog to hit double figures in the setback.
The Bulldogs also saw their six-game winning streak come to an end.
Chowan's Nyeisha Savage (Suffolk, Va.) added four points, 15 rebounds and five blocks as the Hawks were able to overcome 21 turnovers to steal the win in a key league contest.
Barton remains at home to take on Emmanuel (Ga.) on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon in league action beginning at 2:00 p.m.
Chowan, meanwhile, hosts Erskine on Saturday, February 21, starting at 2:00 p.m., as well in a conference contest.
