SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (19-10) fell to Chowan (19-8), 80-60, in the semifinals of the 2026 Conference Carolinas Championship Saturday evening at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium on the campus of Wofford College.
The Hawks, the sixth seed in the tournament, will take on fifth-seeded Lees-McRae (22-7) in the conference championship on Sunday afternoon starting at 4:00 p.m. Barton was seeded second in the league tournament.
Chowan's Yasmine Brown (Suffolk, Va.) led the way with a game-high 27 points as the Hawks punched their tickets to the finals for the first time in school history.
Chowan jumped out to a 37-23 lead at halftime and never looked back. The Hawks held a 48-34 edge on the boards and limited the Bulldogs to just 31 percent shooting (19-of-61) from the field in the win.
Barton was led by sophomore guard
Layne Sleight (Jackson, Mich.) and senior guard
Lauren Mingo (Clinton, Md.), a pair of all-league performers, with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
Mingo finished her collegiate career with 1,400 points – ninth-best all-time in school history – and her 287 steals ranks second on the program's career list.
