WILSON, N.C.-Freshman goalkeeper Carson Moore (Greenville, N.C.) made 11 saves but could not stop freshman Gabriella Reid (Birmingham, England) from scoring a hat trick as visiting Limestone College defeated Barton College 5-0 on Saturday afternoon in Conference Carolinas women's soccer action.
Reid's first collegiate hat trick improved the Saints to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in the league. The Lady Bulldogs dipped to 2-4 and 2-3 after suffering a second straight setback.
The home game for Barton was part of the College's Family Weekend.
Limestone posted its fourth shutout victory as senior goalkeeper Kristin Alderin-Fleagle (Kernersville, N.C.) made saves on both Barton shots on goal in the first half. Senior Brittany Bobbitt (Manassas, Va.) had the Bulldogs best look with a close range header in the 38th minute but K. Alderin-Fleagle made the diving save to her left.
BC freshman Amber Brush (Princeton, N.C.) almost broke up the shutout bid with a laser shot in the 83rd minute but the attempt just missed its mark rifling off the left goalpost.
Freshman Dominique Evans (Haymarket, Va.) put the visitors ahead early with a breakaway goal just three minutes and 39 seconds into play. Reid doubled up the Saints lead in the 30th minute with an accurate header before senior Ashley Alderin-Fleagle (Kernersville, N.C.) scored her team-high sixth goal in the 40th minute. Reid added her second tally just 92 seconds later in the 41st minute as Limestone took a commanding 4-0 lead into halftime.
Reid completed her hat trick with a breakaway goal in the 64th minute, confidently placing the ball inside the far post. A. Alderin-Fleagle assisted on Reid's final two goals to finish with a four-point performance. Senior Vanessa Jarrett (Ottawa, Canada) chipped in one assist).
Moore was busy in net making several highlight reel saves including a couple diving stops in the first half and an impressive punch save over the crossbar in the second stanza.
Limestone held a 24-8 shot cushion and 7-1 corner kick advantage.
