BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Barton women's soccer team (4-8, 3-6) put an end to a three-match losing streak with a 2-1 road triumph over King (6-5-1, 4-4-1) Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas contest at Parks Field.
Barton scored both its goals in the first 10 minutes of action courtesy of sophomore defender
Kayla Loughrey (Broomfield, Ohio) and freshman midfielder
Julia Morales (Frederick, Md.).
Both Bulldogs players notched their first goals of their respective seasons.
King cut the margin in half thanks to Makenzie Simmons (Moorpark, Calif.), who found the back of the net in the 73rd minute.
Barton freshman goalkeeper
Lily Diedrich (Severna Park, Md.) earned the victory after stopping four shots while Olivia Seston (Shawnee, Kan.) also made four saves but suffered the loss. The Tornado held a 10-9 advantage in shots taken in the setback as well.
Barton returns home to face Ferrum in league action Tuesday at the Bulldogs' Complex starting at 2:30 p.m. Meanwhile, King plays Lees-McRae on Tuesday evening in Banner Elk, N.C., starting at 7:00 p.m.
