MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Barton women's soccer team (4-10-1, 3-8-1) tied rival Mount Olive (4-9-3, 2-7-3), 1-1, in a Conference Carolinas match Tuesday evening at rainy Amon Field.
The Bulldogs, who avenged an earlier loss to the Trojans at home, received a goal from sophomore defender
Kayla Loughrey (Broomfield, Colo.) in the 18th minute, her second score of the season.
The Trojans tied the score at one thanks to Ellie Brock (Omaha, Neb.) at the 53:05 mark of the second half but neither team could break through the rest of the way.
Barton held a 14-9 advantage in shots taken while freshman
Lily Diedrich (Severna Park, Md.) tallied four saves in goal for the visitors.
Mount Olive's goalkeeper, Anais Coyne (Mansfield, Texas), made five stops in the tie as well.
Barton wraps up the regular season on Saturday, November 1, when the Bulldogs travel to Pembroke, N.C., to take on UNC Pembroke in league action beginning at 1:00 p.m. Mount Olive, meanwhile, travels to Petersburg, Va., to take on Virginia State Wednesday starting at 2:00 p.m.
