Barton College names Jason Hamilton Head Women’s Soccer Coach

WILSON, N.C. – Barton College has announced the hiring of Jason Hamilton as its new Head Women's Soccer Coach.

Hamilton recently served as an Assistant Coach for the University of Notre Dame during the 2022 season, guiding the Fighting Irish to a 17-3-3 record, a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Division I Tournament and berth in the Elite Eight.  Hamilton also coached two All-Americans while at Notre Dame and four players who signed professional contracts.

Hamilton was also Head Coach at Troy University (2014-16) and East Carolina University (2018-21).  At Troy, Hamilton guided the Trojans to a 14-2-2 record in 2014.  During his tenure with the Pirates, Hamilton coached ECU to three trips to the conference tournament and mentored back-to-back American Athletic Conference Rookies-of-the-Year.

"We're pleased to welcome Jason (Hamilton) as the leader of our women's soccer program and as a teammate in the Barton Athletic Department," said Ken Tyler, Barton Vice President and Director of Athletics.  "He brings great experience to the role, including high-level assistant stops in the ACC, SEC and at perennial power Notre Dame.  In his two stints as a head coach at Troy and East Carolina, Jason took over programs that were down and immediately made them better.  We had many outstanding candidates for this position, but Jason rose to the top based on his track record of winning soccer and positively impacting the lives of student-athletes.  I'm excited to work with Jason and can't wait to see our program move forward."

Hamilton was also the Associate Head Coach at Mississippi State University (2017) and an Assistant Coach for the University of Florida in 2013.  The Gators were SEC Champions and earned a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament.  Hamilton started his collegiate coaching career as an Assistant Coach at the University of Miami (2011-12) where he helped led the Hurricanes to back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Tournament.

"First of all, I'd like to thank Ken (Tyler) and (Barton President) Dr. Doug Searcy for the opportunity to join the Bulldog family," said Hamilton.  "Having leaders with so much passion for Barton and all of athletics is extremely magnetizing and I saw that same passion from everyone I met throughout the process."

Hamilton also served as an Assistant Coach for the Boston Breakers in their inaugural season in the NWSL.  Hamilton has a collegiate head coaching record of 63-51-15.

Hamilton graduated from Macomb (Mich.) College in 2002 and earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Detroit Mercy in 2005.  While at Macomb, Hamilton was an First-Team All-Conference and All-Region honoree and led the squad to the NJCAA Final Four in 2000.  At Detroit Mercy, Hamilton served as team captain.

After graduation, Hamilton spent three years with the Windsor Border Stars in the Canadian Professional Soccer League and played one season in the American Indoor Soccer League.  Hamilton played on two Canada and one AISL Title Teams.

A native of St. Clair Shores, Mich., Hamilton has several diplomas and licenses from the NSCAA, the United States Soccer Federation and the United States Sports Academy.
