Barton women's basketball downs King (Tenn.), 81-76, sets NCAA three-point mark

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Barton women's basketball team (15-5, 12-3) stayed in the thick in the Conference Carolinas race with an 81-76 victory over King (Tenn.) (11-10, 8-7) Saturday afternoon at the Student Center Complex.  Barton tied an NCAA record by making all 11 three-point attempts in the contest.

Barton junior guard Michelle Gainey (Rocky Mount, N.C.) finished with 19 points and was one of four Bulldogs to score in double figures as the visitors won their second straight league road contest.

Sophomore forward Jami Tham-Morrobel (Arlington, Va.) and junior center Shanika Peterkin (Virginia Beach, Va.) both scored 15 points as well for the Bulldogs, who moved into a second place tie in the conference regular season standings with Emmanuel (Ga.). 

King was led by Trinity Lee (Knoxville, Tenn.) with a game-high 20 points on eight-of-10 shooting but the Bulldogs were able to sweep the season series from the Tornado.  On January 24, 2009, Finlandia hit 11 three-pointers against Silver Lake (two schools in NCAA Division III).

Barton remains on the road to take on rival Mount Olive on Wednesday in Conference Carolinas action while King faces Erskine in Due West, S.C., on Wednesday as well.  Both contests are slated for a 5:30 p.m., start.
