Box Score GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (14-5, 11-3) recovered from a disappointing setback three days ago to upend Limestone (15-7, 10-6), 67-58, Tuesday evening in a Conference Carolinas contest at the Timken Center.
Barton junior center Shanika Peterkin (Virginia Beach, Va.) continued her torrid pace of late by leading all scorers with 31 points to go along with 12 rebounds as the Bulldogs took over third place in the league regular season standings.
Peterkin notched her 15th double-double of the year and scored over 30 points for the second straight game as the Bulldogs rallied for the victory after outscoring the Saints by a 26-12 margin in the fourth period. Trailing by a 56-51 score with four minutes remaining, the Bulldogs reeled off 10 straight points to take the lead for good.
Sophomore forward Jami Tham-Morrobel (Arlington, Va.) tallied a double-double – 10 points and 16 rebounds – while junior guard Michelle Gainey (Rocky Mount, N.C.) hit the game-winning three-pointer for Barton. Gainey finished with eight points as the Bulldogs swept the season series from the Saints. Limestone was led by Schekinah Bimpa (Loganville, Ga.) with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
In the next round of Conference Carolinas games on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., Barton plays King (Tenn.) in Bristol, Tenn., while Limestone takes on Southern Wesleyan in Central, S.C.
