Box Score WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (6-3, 3-1) recovered nicely with a dominant victory over King (Tenn.) (4-5, 2-2), 78-41, in Conference Carolinas action Saturday afternoon at Wilson Gymnasium.
Barton junior center Shanika Peterkin (Virginia Beach, Va.) notched her eighth straight double-double – 15 points and 12 rebounds – while sophomore guard Akira Wiggins (Knightdale, N.C.) added a game-high 17 points to go along with seven assists and three treys in the victory.
Barton raced to a 42-23 halftime lead and never looked back and the Bulldogs limited the Tornado to just 25 percent shooting (15-for-59) for the contest and forced the visitors into 21 turnovers in the win. Senior guard Summer Baer (Fleming Island, Fla.) added 13 points and four three-pointers for the Bulldogs, who led by as many as 39 points in the final period.
King was led by Arielle Holloway (Atlanta, Ga.) with 14 points but was the lone player to score in double figures for the Tornado. Barton also held a 52-35 edge on the boards.
Barton remains at home to take on Chowan in a Conference Carolinas contest on Tuesday beginning at 5:30 p.m., while King hosts Emmanuel (Ga.) at Holston View Elementary School in Bristol, Tenn., beginning at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday.
