Barton shuts out King, 2-0, to run winning streak to five matches in women's soccer

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's soccer team (7-2-1, 5-1) stayed hot with a 2-0 shutout win over King (Tenn.) (3-4, 1-2) Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas contest at the Bulldogs Athletic Complex.  The Bulldogs ran their winning streak to five matches while shutting out their fourth consecutive opponent.

Barton junior forward Olivia Bronson (Gaithersburg, Md.) and senior forward Rebekah Beal (Nashville, N.C.) both scored their third goals of the year while Bronson's match-winner came just 2:55 into the contest as the Bulldogs continue to lead the league standings with 15 points.

Beal's goal came in the 79th minute on a breakaway with senior midfielder Katie Christiansen (Niantic, Conn.) being credited with the assist.  Barton also held a 21-5 advantage in shots taken while sophomore goalkeeper Kristin Davis (Willow Springs, N.C.) earned the shutout win.  Davis stopped two shots and increased her scoreless streak to 276:40 minutes.

King's goalkeeper, Erin Foster (Morristown, Tenn.), tallied seven saves but the Tornado dropped its second straight contest.

Barton returns to the pitch on Saturday, October 12, against Southern Wesleyan beginning at 1:00 p.m., in a Conference Carolinas match in Central, S.C., while King faces Mars Hill on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m., in Mars Hill, N.C.
