CENTRAL, S.C. – The Barton College women's basketball team rolled to its ninth straight victory Monday night with a dominating 72-43 Conference Carolinas road win at Southern Wesleyan University.
The winning streak is the longest for Barton (12-5, 7-2) since the Lady Bulldogs claimed 10 straight victories during the 2012-13 season, the last time BC reached the NCAA Tournament.
The 43 points were the fewest allowed by Barton in a game since giving up the same number in a 68-43 win over Queens University to open the 2014-15 season.
The 43 points were also the fewest scored this year by Southern Wesleyan (5-10, 4-5), which entered the contest having won four of its last five games, including a 70-69 overtime victory over league-leading Limestone College 10 days ago.
Barton shot 57 percent from the field over the first two quarters (17 of 30) while holding the Warriors to just 21 percent (6 of 29) in rolling to a 40-16 halftime cushion.
Redshirt senior Alex Kimble led the Lady Bulldogs with 24 points and added seven rebounds. Dinah Neal went 6-of-7 from the floor and scored 14 points, while Kianna Wynn contributed 13 points. Karimah Dean collected a game-high 10 rebounds in the victory.
The Warriors were paced by Aneysa Williams and Tatiyana Mahone, who each scored nine points. Mahone also pulled down seven rebounds in the loss.
Barton did not lead throughout, as SWU scored the first point of the game on a free throw. However, Kimble converted a three-point play on BC's next possession, the start of a 13-1 run for the Lady Bulldogs.
Kimble and Neal each scored seven points in the first quarter and Wynn added five as BC raced to a 19-8 lead after the first quarter.
Southern Wesleyan didn't reach double-figures in points until a Williams jumper with 4:54 left in the half, and by that time the Warriors trailed 34-11.
Barton led by as many as 36 points in the third period before finally cooling off by going 2-for-18 from the field in the fourth quarter.
The Lady Bulldogs enjoyed a 40-12 scoring edge in the paint and out-rebounded Southern Wesleyan 46 to 34. BC forced 17 turnovers while committing 14, but outscored the Warriors off those turnovers 21 to 4.
Barton will attempt to push its winning streak to double-digits on Saturday when it visits Emmanuel College for a 2 p.m. contest. BC won an earlier meeting with the Lions in Wilson, N.C., 76-50, the first victory in the current streak.
