WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team fell victim to the Tornado of King University on Wednesday night, losing 94-60 to the top team in the Conference Carolinas' standings.
King (10-4, 7-1) shot 58.3 percent for the contest, including 47.8 percent (11-for-23) from beyond the 3-point line and held a 39-29 advantage in total rebounds. In contrast, Barton (7-6, 4-3) struggled to shoot just 41.2 percent from the floor and a season-low 14.3 percent (2-for-14) from long range.
Despite the Tornado opening the game on a 9-2 run over the first four minutes of play, the Lady Bulldogs battled back to trail 20-15 after the first quarter of the game. However, BC scored just eight points in the second period leading to a 46-23 deficit at the half.
Barton continued to falter in the second half, shooting 33.3 percent in the fourth and final quarter of regulation as King ran way with a 34-point victory and ended BC's four-game winning streak.
Sophomore Kianna Wynn was the only Lady Bulldog in double figures, scoring 20 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the floor. Junior Karimah Dean chipped in eight points and five rebounds off of the bench, while sophomore Dinah Neal and JerBria Smith each scored seven points.
The Lady Bulldogs will look to get back on track when they host Erskine College on Saturday, Jan. 14 at 2 p.m. in Wilson Gym.
