MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Barton's women's volleyball program got back to its winning ways on Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 (25-9, 25-16, 25-16) over the Falcons of Pfeiffer University inside Merner Gym.
The Lady Bulldogs hit a season-high .318 as a team in the match, committing just seven attack errors, while also finishing with a season-high 12 service aces. In contrast, the Falcons hit a lowly .084 with 17 errors as a unit.
Barton cruised to an early 1-0 lead in the match with a convincing 25-9 win in the first set of play. The Lady Bulldogs led 8-1 following a 7-0 run behind the serves of sophomore Hayley Marshburn. Back-to-back kills from Marshburn and junior Courtney Wiseman pushed the BC advantage to 22-7 before another Wiseman kill ended the set.
The momentum carried over into the second set for Barton as a kill from senior Kaitlyn Micol put the team up 4-2 in the early stages. Two consecutive service aces from junior Janay Yulis, followed by another successful Micol attack pushed the Lady Bulldogs' lead to 18-10 over Pfeiffer. The Falcons put together a small 3-0 late in the frame but Yulis gave Barton a 2-0 lead with a kill to end the set with BC ahead 25-16.
The Royal Blue and White once again got out to an early advantage, leading 9-2 in the third set. Barton's lead grew to a 20-10 edge following back-to-back kills from sophomore Haley Headley and senior Mariana Kediza as BC cruised a 25-16 set win to seal the match victory.
Junior Miranda Miller and sophomore Allie Cullens led the team with six kills each, hitting .545 and .462, respectively. Micol finished with five kills of her own behind a .833 hitting mark, while Kedzia and Marshburn had five kills apiece. Kedzia turned in a career-high six services aces as redshirt-sophomore Riley Bane led all players with 14 digs.
Barton's five-game road trip continues on Tuesday, Sept. 27 with a rivalry match against the University of Mount Olive in Mount Olive, N.C. at 7 p.m.
