BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Barton College women's volleyball team struggled in the first day of competition at the Courtyard Boca Raton Invitational, losing a pair of 3-0 matches on the campus of Lynn University.
After falling to Valdosta State University in the first match of the day, the Lady Bulldogs were handed their second loss of the day in straight sets by host Lynn University. Barton will have two more matches tomorrow as the invitational concludes with contests against Barry University and the University of West Alabama.

Junior transfer Mariana Kedzia led all Lady Bulldogs with eight kills in a 25-8, 25-14, 25-20 loss to the Blazers of Valdosta State. Sophomore Courtney Wiseman finished with six kills of her own in the match, while freshman Angelica Acevedo's 18 assists and sophomore transfer Stephanie Pingyin's 14 digs were team-highs.
Valdosta State was led by freshman Ashley Miller's match-high nine kills and a double-double from senior Jessica Codato who finished with 24 assists and 13 digs.
The Blazers took advantage of 11 Barton attack errors in the first set to gain an early lead before totaling 15 kills in each of the final two sets to secure the victory.
BC posted a hitting percentage of .035 compared to a .315 mark by Valdosta State.
Lynn University 3, Barton College 0
Pingyin led all players with a match-high 16 kills, but Barton totaled only 28 kills as a team in a 25-17, 25-17, 25-22 loss to Lynn University.
As a team, the Fighting Knights hit .307 and were led by redshirt-junior Lydia West who finished with nine kills. Lynn's Marissa Tandron totaled a match-high 27 assists, while two Fighting Knights tied with Barton sophomore Laura Peed with 10 digs in the three-set match.
Lynn totaled double-digit kills in each set en route to 39 total kills in the victory as the Lady Bulldogs committed 17 attack errors and hit at a .121 clip.
The first game for tomorrow is schedule for a 9 a.m. first serve with BC's final match of the weekend set for a 3 p.m. start time.
