WILSON, N.C. - Playing their second game in as many days, the Barton College Lady Bulldogs suffered a 67-42 defeat at the hands of King University on Saturday night in Wilson Gymnasium.
The Lady Bulldogs (8-11, 7-5), who were looking to secure their third straight win, were held to 29.1 percent shooting from the floor, including a 2-for-16 performance from beyond the three-point arc. King was also able to outrebound Barton 45-29 in the game, converting 12 offensive rebounds into 17 second chance points.
King (14-5, 9-4) led from start to finish, opening the game on a 12-4 run over the first six minutes of play. A brief 5-0 run cut the Tornado lead to three points at the 12:50 mark but Barton was never able to get any closer in the half.
The Tornado lead would grow to as large as a 17-point advantage as King took a 31-16 lead into intermission. King had seven different players score in the first half, pounding in 22 points in the paint.
Early in the second half King's lead grew to 48-20 with 13:10 left on the clock after a layup from Alley Sprouse.
King's largest lead of the game came with 2:33 left to play as a Sprouse layup put the Tornado ahead by 33 points. Barton ended the game on a 10-2 run as King's lead was too much to overcome.
Sophomore center Shatisha Dukes recorded her second double-double of the season, scoring a game-high 14 points with 11 rebounds to go along with three blocks and three steals.
Fellow sophomore Tiffany Webster was the team's second-leading scorer with nine points and five rebounds, while senior Kaila Lea finished with seven points in the game.
The Lady Bulldogs will be in action again on Wednesday Jan. 28 when they host Converse College at 6:00 p.m. in Wilson.
