TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Barton College women's soccer team saw its win streak once again halted at three matches after falling, 1-0, at North Greenville University on Saturday.
Over the past 12 matches, the Lady Bulldogs (9-5, 3-3) have won three consecutive matches three times, each one followed by a loss. Despite the setback, Barton remains in a tie for fourth place in Conference Carolinas with Converse College, which lost at home, 1-0, to Pfeiffer on Saturday.
The only goal in Barton's match Saturday came in the 69th minute when Caroline Baker settled a bouncing ball in the box and fired it into the net for North Greenville (5-7, 2-4). The goal was Baker's second of the year, and just the 12th of the season for the Crusaders, which had lost their last five matches in a row, all by one goal.
Both teams were credited with only three shots in the match. Barton keeper Carson Moore, the reigning Conference Carolinas Player of the Week, had saves on the other two attempts she faced.
Barton had two shots over a 17-second span in the 13th minute. Sophomore Jodi Barber, who had a hat trick in Wednesday's win against Columbia, missed wide on the first attempt, and the second attempt was the only save of the day credited to NGU goalie Kathryn Tate, who recorded her third shutout of the year.
Senior Taylor Parrish, who played in her first match since an injury on Oct. 5, had a chance to score for the Lady Bulldogs six minutes into the second period, but her shot hit the post.
Barton will visit second-place Pfeiffer University on Tuesday for a 2 p.m. match, and will host King University on Saturday at 1 p.m. as part of Homecoming Weekend.
