WILSON, N.C.-The top three singles players for Barton College all won their singles and doubles matches in a 6-3 non-conference victory over Lenoir-Rhyne University on Monday afternoon at the Barton Tennis Complex.
The Bulldogs second straight win improved the hosts to 3-5 overall. The Bears remained winless on the season at 0-7.
Seniors Pier-Alexandre Desilets and Renato Mendes along with freshman Max Leppert all won twice.
Mendes-Leppert teamed up to win the top doubles match 8-6. Desilets paired with freshman Antoine Massicotte for an 8-2 win in the middle doubles tandem as BC took a 2-1 lead into singles play.
Desilets highlighted play in the top flight with a marathon three-set victory. After losing the first set in a tiebreaker, 6-7 (4), Desilets forced a third set with a 6-4 win and then secured the victory with a 11-9 superset winner.
Leppert, who was named the Conference Carolinas Player of the Week two weeks ago – had no trouble in the second singles position in the lineup winning without losing a game 6-0, 6-0.
Mendes garnered his win in the No. 3 slot with matching 6-2 triumphs. Freshman Jorge Pradilla followed with a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 4.
Pradilla has won four consecutive singles tilts and is tied with Desilets with a 5-3 singles record. Leppert (4-2) and Desilets have each won three straight matchups
Barton returns from spring break with a non-conference home match against Methodist University on Thursday, March 15 at 3 p.m.
