WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's tennis team (2-8, 2-2) pulled out a 4-3 victory over Shorter (1-10, 0-3) Saturday morning in a Conference Carolinas contest at the Michalak Tennis Complex.
Barton sophomores
Nicola Bottelberghs (Lokoren, BELGIUM) and
Sean Maphosa (Umea, SWEDEN) and junior
Fredrik Foss (Oslo, NORWAY) all earned wins in singles and doubles competition to help the Bulldogs pick up the win.
Maphosa's victory over Shorter's Bailey Liu (Victoria, AUSTRALIA) at No. 3 singles was key after rallying to win by scores of 0-6, 6-0 and 6-3.
Meanwhile, Bottelberghs has won four straight matches at first singles.
Barton travels to Murfreesboro, N.C., to take on league-foe Chowan on Tuesday starting at 2:00 p.m.
Shorter returns home to take on Gadsden State Community College on Tuesday afternoon beginning at 1:00 p.m.
