Box Score WILSON, N.C.-Senior guard Jamila Johnson and freshman freshman guard Nyeshea Willie accounted for 48 points, 11 assists, eight rebounds and eight steals Saturday night as the red-hot Barton College women's basketball team dropped Erskine 92-77 in the "Dog House."
The Lady Bulldogs, ranked sixth in the NCAA DII Southeast Region, racked up their 11th straight win and 31st consecutive Conference Carolinas victory while improving to a sparkling 17-2 overall and 13-0 in league play. Erskine slipped to 7-10 overall and 5-6 in conference action. Barton is home with St. Andrews Presbyterian College at 5:30 Wednesday evening.
Johnson scored 25 points on 9-of-16 shooting and had five rebounds, five steals and five assists. Willie (Virginia Beach, Va.) notched a career-high 23 points on 9-of-12 shooting and hit two 3-pointers. She added six assists, three steals and three rebounds.
Barton, which never trailed, cruised to a 42-31 halftime cushion. Erskine closed within four points twice in the second half before the Lady Bulldogs' high-pressure defense and high-octane offense assumed control.
Holding a slight 46-42 lead at the 16:23 mark, Barton blew open the game with a 15-7 run. Sophomore forward Jolanda Mitchell (Raleigh, N.C.) scored bookend layups during the critical run, Johnson went 4-of-4 from the foul line, sophomore center Janae Jackson (Fort Belvoir, Va.) made a layup, sophomore forward Shante Neal (Spring Hope, N.C.) hit a pair of foul shots and Willie swished a trey.
Jackson finished with her third straight double-double and her fourth of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Barton, ranked fifth nationally in scoring among D-II teams, wound up with a 48-26 advantage in points in the paint and a 22-2 margin in fastbreak points. Barton blistered the nets for 50-percent accuracy (36-of-72), outrebounded the Fleet 45-27 and recorded 12 steals. Erskine shot 45.3 percent (29-of-64) from the floor.
The Fleet, who stayed in the game with solid shooting from 3-point land (7-of-15), got 24 points from Jean Marie Harris (Lancaster, S.C.), 21 from Elizabeth Tatum (Glennville, Ga.), 12 points and six assists from Porsha Morgan (Columbus, Ga.) and 11 points from Neci Allen (N. Augusta, S.C.).
