Barton Head Baseball Coach Keith Gorman takes top spot at USC Aiken

AIKEN, S.C. – Barton College Head Baseball Coach Keith Gorman has stepped down after six seasons as Bulldogs mentor and will take the helm at USC Aiken.

Gorman compiled a record of 152-116 in six seasons with the Bulldogs including three straight years of 30 or more victories in what is considered probably the deepest league in NCAA Division II in Conference Carolinas.

In 2023, Gorman led Barton to a 34-16 record – its most victories in the NCAA D-II era – while Tanner Halvorson was named the league's pitcher of the year and earned All-American honors.

This year, the Bulldogs defeated North Greenville, the top ranked team in the country, three times and beat Lenoir-Rhyne twice.  The Bears recently won the Southeast Regional Championship.

Keith Gorman, Barton Head Baseball Coach
"I am incredibly grateful for the past six years at Barton College.  What began during a challenging time, navigating the impacts of COVID, turned into a journey filled with growth, resilience and success.

To my players, past and present:  thank you for your relentless dedication, hard work and belief in our program and each other.  To my coaching staff, former and current:  your commitment and passion have been the foundation of everything we accomplished.

A special thank you to former (Barton) Athletic Director Todd Wilkinson and current (Barton) President Dr. Doug Searcy for giving me the opportunity to lead the program back in 2019.  I'm also grateful for former AD Britney Woodhull-Smith and current AD Ken Tyler for your leadership and the lessons I've learned under your guidance.

To the Barton Baseball alumni:  you've been loyal supporters and true friends.  Your connection to the program has meant so much to me personally.

And finally, to the Wilson Community, my family and I will always consider Wilson home.  We've built lifelong friendships here, and we look forward to staying in touch in the years to come."

Ken Tyler, Barton Vice President and Director of Athletics
"This is a bittersweet day for Barton AthleticsWe're happy for Keith (Gorman) and his family but sorry to see him leave.  Keith did a great job leading our program over the last six years and the culture of Barton Baseball is strong.  We have a program that competes with the best teams in the deepest conference in NCAA Division II and we expect that to continue.  We will share news about leadership of our baseball program in the near future."
