GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Barton men's golf team, ranked No. 24 in NCAA Division II, tied for eighth overall at the Ironwood Collegiate Classic which concluded Tuesday with the second round at the Ironwood Golf & Country Club.
The Bulldogs were playing against mostly NCAA Division II competition and finished with a nine-567 on the par-72, 7,102-yard course while the host institution, East Carolina, won the tournament thanks to a 28-under 548 performance. The tournament was originally scheduled for three rounds but was shortened to two due to severe weather and rain.
Barton was led by junior
JoseMaria Gutierrez (Mexico City, MEXICO), who tied for 16th overall with a four-under 140 after two rounds of play. Florida Atlantic's Biagio Gagliardi (Rome, ITALY) was the individual medalist thanks to a 13-under 131 card.
Barton returns to the links on Monday, October 7, and Tuesday, October 8, to compete in the Hurricane Invitational at the Doublegate Country Club in Albany, Ga.
