GREENVILLE, S.C. – Six members of the Barton women's lacrosse team earned 2022 All-Conference Carolinas honors, league officials announced earlier today.
Barton junior midfielder
Samantha Diaz (Apex, N.C.) was named to the all-league first team while sophomore attacker
Sydney Quinn (Fuquay-Varina, N.C.) and senior defender
Ashley Teilborg (Sneads Ferry, N.C.) garnered all-league second-team accolades.
Diaz leads the team in ground balls (54) and caused turnovers (30) to go along with five goals and earned league defensive player-of-the-week honors once this season. Quinn has a team-leading 40 goals and 69 draw controls and ranks second on the team in assists (16) and total points (56) this spring.
Three Bulldogs earned all-conference third-team accolades: freshman attacker
Kate Matuza (Hampstead, N.C.), sophomore midfielder
Jayden Smith (Winter Garden, Fla.) and freshman defender
Kloe Martin (Dracut, Mass.).
Matuza, the league's freshman of the year for March, is tied for first in the conference with 35 assists in addition to 30 goals and a team-leading 65 points. Smith has 17 goals while Martin has six goals, 33 ground balls, 32 draw controls and 17 caused turnovers. Both Teilborg and Smith earned all-conference honors for the second straight year.
Barton (10-7), the third seed in the 2022 Conference Carolinas Championship, takes on second-seeded Belmont Abbey (10-7) in the semifinal round at 3:00 p.m., on Thursday at North Greenville University's Pepsi Stadium in Tigerville, S.C.
