Barton women’s lacrosse takes setback to rival Mount Olive on the road

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Barton women's lacrosse team (4-6, 2-2) fell to rival Mount Olive (7-3, 5-0), 19-8, Wednesday evening in a Conference Carolinas game at Ray McDonald, Sr., Sports Complex.

Mount Olive's Maddy Fratus (Plymouth, Mass.) and Katie Broom (Houston, Texas) both scored a match-high four goals as the Trojans remained unbeaten in league play.

Holding a 6-5 edge midway through the second quarter, the Trojans scored 12 of the next 13 goals to break the contest open.

Barton sophomore midfielder Berghan Balparda (Melbourne, Fla.) led the visitors with three goals and now has a season-high 21 scores on the season despite the loss.  Barton graduate student attacker Andrea Davila (Jacksonville, N.C.) totaled three points – a goal and a pair of assists – in the setback as well.

Mount Olive held a 32-15 edge in shots taken while Ruby Burandt (Savage, Minn.) earned the win after stopping a pair of shots.  Barton freshman goalkeeper Alexandra Ashton (Chantilly, Va.) totaled 10 saves in the losing effort.

Barton looks to bounce back on Saturday when the Bulldogs host North Greenville in a league affair beginning at Noon at Truist Stadium.

Mount Olive travels to Franklin Springs, Ga., to take on Emmanuel on Saturday afternoon starting at 1:00 p.m., in a conference contest.
