WINGATE, N.C. – The Barton men's cross country team wrapped up its 2022 season at the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Championship Saturday morning on the campus of Wingate University.
The Bulldogs took 17th overall while fourth-ranked Wingate, the host institution, won the regional championship thanks to four runners in the top six overall. Augusta and Anderson finished second and third, respectively, to gain automatic qualifying to the national championship meet.
Barton was led by senior
Deshawn Owens (Pikeville, N.C.), who took 52nd overall with a time of 33:44 over the 10K course while UNC Pembroke's Joshua Chepkesir (Eldoret, KENYA) was the top individual after crossing the finish line in 31:05.
The 2022 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships take place on Friday, December 2, at Chambers Creek Regional Park in University Place, Wash.
