ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Barton men's cross country team opened the 2019 campaign with a second-place finish at the North Carolina Wesleyan Men's Cross Country Classic and Invitational Saturday morning on the Battling Bishops' campus. Eight schools ran in the race.
Barton was led by sophomore Deshawn Owens (Pikeville, N.C.), who placed fourth overall with a time of 28:20 over the 8K course while teammate and freshman Xavier McLamb (Newton Grove, N.C.) was one spot behind in fifth (28:21).
North Carolina Wesleyan, the host school, was the top team while St. Augustine's Baron Freeman (Hampton, Va.) won the race after crossing the finish line in 26:19.
The Barton men's cross country team next competes in the Queen City Invitational Friday, September 27, at 5:00 p.m., at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte, N.C.
