WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's tennis team (9-1) pushed its winning streak to seven matches with a 5-2 triumph over Fairmont State (1-2) Monday afternoon at the Bulldogs complex.
Four Bulldogs – senior Rory Gaydon (Darlington, ENGLAND), sophomore James Kelly (Mazabuka, ZAMBIA) and freshmen Matteo Savio (Malvern, AUSTRALIA) and Philip Nordberg (Mariefred, SWEDEN) – all prevailed at singles and doubles action to lead Barton to the win.
Savio improved to 8-0 in singles action with his 6-1, 6-2 victory over Fairmont State's Drew Hawthorne (Morgantown, W.Va.) at No. 6 singles and teamed up with Gaydon to prevail over the Falcons' Joao Martins (Porto, PORTUGAL) and Valentino Klett (Stuttgart, GERMANY), 6-1, at No. 2 doubles.
Barton opens Conference Carolinas play on Thursday when the Bulldogs host on Thursday, March 12, at 2:00 p.m., while Fairmont State plays at Shaw in Raleigh, N.C., beginning at 3:00 p.m., on Wednesday.
