Box Score 2 WILSON, N.C. – The Barton baseball team (11-12, 3-6) came alive today with a dramatic doubleheader sweep of No. 7 Mount Olive (17-4, 7-2), 4-2 and 6-5, Saturday afternoon in Conference Carolinas action at Nixon Field. The Bulldogs snapped the Trojans' eight-game winning streak and handed Mount Olive its first two losses in league play this year.
Game One – Barton 4, No. 7 Mount Olive 2 (seven innings)
Barton senior Alex Hart (Raleigh, N.C.) (2-3) went the distance in the complete game victory while senior first baseman Noah Almond (Raleigh, N.C.) hit the game-winning, two-run double in the bottom of the fifth inning as the Bulldogs rallied from a 2-0 deficit to take the win. Hart scattered eight hits while striking out five batters.
Mount Olive's Hunter Stevens (Raleigh, N.C.) (4-1) suffered his first loss of the year while Joe Mason (Morehead City, N.C.) and Matt Stokes (Charlotte, N.C.) both finished with a pair of hits and an RBI in the losing effort for the Trojans.
Game Two – Barton 6, No. 7 Mount Olive 5
Almond scored the walk-off run in the bottom of the ninth on an errant Mount Olive throw as the Bulldogs scored three runs in the frame and rallied from a 5-1 deficit in the eighth inning to complete the sweep.
Barton junior second baseman Andres Machado (Pinecrest, Fla.) – who finished with two hits in the first game – added two more hits in the second contest and drove in a pair of runs to lead the home team. Barton junior Mason Cooper (Middlesex, N.C.) (1-0) retired the final four batters for his first victory of the year.
For Mount Olive, Jake Isbell (Holly Springs, N.C.) (2-1) was tagged with the setback in relief while Dusty Baker (Clyo, Ga.) drove in two runs to lead the Trojans offensively.
Barton remains at home to take on California (Pa.) at Fleming Stadium on Tuesday evening at 5:00 p.m., while Mount Olive hosts Dominican (N.Y.) on Tuesday afternoon starting at 4:00 p.m.
