WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's tennis team (8-1) pushed its winning streak to six matches after prevailing over Edinboro (Pa.) (5-2) by a 5-2 score Saturday morning at the Bulldogs complex.
Barton was able to fend off Edinboro (Pa.) thanks to junior Diego Agudelo (Bogata, COLOMBIA) and freshman Matteo Savio (Malvern, AUSTRALIA), who both won at singles and doubles play.
Agudelo picked up victories at first singles and first doubles and rallied to win at No. 1 singles over Edinboro's Nils Plutat (Sauerlach, BAVARIA), 6-2, 1-6 and 6-4. Meanwhile, Savio remained unbeaten in singles play at 7-0 this season.
In addition, Barton junior Oscar Marmestedt (Akersberga, SWEDEN) pulled out an exciting victory at third singles, 6-7, 6-4 and 10-7 over the Fighting Scots' Sabio Sbeghen (Maringa, PARANA).
Barton will step into Conference Carolinas play this Thursday when the Bulldogs host Belmont Abbey beginning at 2:00 p.m., while Edinboro takes on West Liberty on Sunday at Hilton Head Island, S.C., beginning at 3:15 p.m.
