Barton baseball opens weekend series with setback to No. 7 Mount Olive

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton baseball team (9-12, 1-6) fell to seventh-ranked Mount Olive (17-2, 7-0) by an 11-0 score Friday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas game at Nixon Field.

The Trojans' J.T. Stone (Fayetteville, N.C.) hit a solo home run as part of a four-run first inning which included a pair of errors and three unearned runs while Gunner Tolston (Swansboro, N.C.) hit a three-run round-tripper in the sixth inning as Mount Olive won its eighth straight game and remained unbeaten in league play.

On the mound, Mount Olive's Will Abbott (Camden, S.C.) improved to 4-0 after pitching into the seventh inning and striking out six batters.  Barton freshman Gentry Fortuno (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) suffered the loss and fell to 2-3 on the year.  Barton junior outfielder Colby Warren (Roanoke Rapids, N.C.) finished with two hits in the losing effort for the Bulldogs.

Barton and Mount Olive will wrap up the weekend series with a doubleheader on Saturday at 11:00 a.m., at Nixon Field.
