Box Score 2 WILSON, N.C. – The Barton baseball team (3-4) suffered a doubleheader setback to No. 18 Millersville (Pa.) (5-2) Sunday afternoon as the Marauders won by scores of 4-2 and 10-4 at Nixon Field.
Game One – Millersville 4, Barton 2 (seven innings)
The Marauders broke a one-all tie with a three-run sixth inning highlighted by the game-winning, RBI double from Jimmy Cain (Elkridge, Md.) and Darrin Miller (Mifflinburg, Pa.) followed with a two-run single to put the visitors in control.
Millersville's Andrew Mayhew (Perkasie, Pa.) (1-0) was credited with the win in relief while Paul Wilson (Perry Hall, Md.) earned the save. For Barton, senior outfielder Noah Almond (Raleigh, N.C.) and freshman shortstop Stancil Bowles (Beulaville, N.C.) both drove in a run but junior Alex Hart (Raleigh, N.C.) (0-1) took the setback.
Game Two – Millersville 10, Barton 4
Cain hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning to break the game open while Miller added a solo home run and drove in three runs as well to propel the Marauders to the sweep. Millersville's Christian Wingard (Millersburg, Pa.) (1-0) took the win in relief.
Barton lost despite outhitting Millersville by a 13-12 count but the Bulldogs left 15 men on base. Barton was led by junior third baseman Tyler Robinson (Beaver Falls, Pa.) with three hits and an RBI. Senior Fredrick May (Folsom, Calif.) (0-1) was tagged with the loss for the Bulldogs.
Barton remains at home to take on Wingate on Tuesday at Nixon Field beginning at 2:00 p.m., while Millersville next hosts Felician on Wednesday, February 26, at Noon in a doubleheader in its home opener.
