Box Score 2 WILSON, N.C. – Barton (3-2) and Millersville University of Pennsylvania (3-2) split a doubleheader in the 2020 home opener for the Bulldogs Saturday afternoon at Nixon Field. Barton won the first game in nine innings, 2-1, before the Marauders rallied to win the nightcap, 11-5, to salvage the split. Millersville is ranked No. 18 in NCAA Division II.
Game One – Barton 2, Millersville 1 (nine innings)
Barton senior catcher Brayden Olson (Spokane, Wash.) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the ninth to end the contest. Sophomore second baseman Andres Machado (Pinecrest, Fla.) scored the winning run for the Bulldogs.
Olson drove in both runs for the Bulldogs while Barton freshman Gentry Fortuno (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) allowed just one run over seven innings of work with nine strikeouts and junior Jared Davis (Poquoson, Va.) (2-0) pitched two scoreless innings of relief to earn the win.
For Millersville, Jimmy Cain (Elkridge, Md.) drove in a run but Aidan Welch (Philadelphia, Pa.) (0-1) was tagged with the loss.
Game Two – Millersville 11, Barton 5
Millersville's Luke Trailer (Leola, Pa.) hit a home run and drove in three runs as the Marauders rallied from a 2-0 deficit to take control with seven straight runs to win the second contest. Gavilan Fogarty-Harnish (Ephrata, Pa.) improved to 2-0 after striking out nine batters in earning the win as Millersville put the contest away with a four-run sixth inning.
Barton senior outfielder Noah Almond (Raleigh, N.C.) hit a two-run home run and drove in three runs as well for the Bulldogs despite the loss. Barton senior Colby Shimmel (Windsor, Pa.) (0-1) was tagged with the setback.
The two teams wrap up the four-game weekend series on Sunday with a doubleheader beginning at 11:00 a.m.
