Box Score WILSON, N.C. – The Barton baseball team (8-8) rallied from a six-run deficit to defeat Virginia State (7-9), 12-8, Tuesday afternoon at Nixon Field.
Barton senior outfielder Noah Almond (Raleigh, N.C.) hit two home runs and finished with four runs batted in while senior catcher Brayden Olson (Spokane, Wash.) broke an eight-all tie with the game-winning, two-run double in the seventh inning to lead the Bulldogs to the win.
A three-error first inning by Barton and a solo home run from Virginia State's Keyon Smith (Richmond, Va.) in the third frame helped stake the Trojans to a 6-0 advantage before the Bulldogs began their rally.
On the mound, Barton senior Nate McKenrick (Lake City, Pa.) (1-0) pitched over four innings of scoreless relief to earn the win while Virginia State's Andrew Riddick (Suffolk, Va.) was tagged with the loss. Barton also totaled 16 hits in the contest to snap a three-game losing streak.
Barton hits the road to take on King (Tenn.) in a Conference Carolinas game on Friday, February 28, beginning at 2:30 p.m., in Bristol, Tenn., while Virginia State faces Clark Atlanta in Atlanta, Ga., on Friday at 1:00 p.m.
