Barton baseball falls to third-ranked North Greenville on the road in weekend series finale

TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Barton baseball team (7-8, 0-3) fell to the hands of No. 3 North Greenville (13-2-1, 3-0), 10-5, Sunday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas weekend series finale at Ashmore Park.

The Crusaders opened up a 6-1 advantage after three innings of work and never looked back in sweeping the weekend series from the Bulldogs.  North Greenville's Gehrig Octavio (Hilo, Hawai'i) and Douglas Angeli (Spartanburg, S.C.) both drove in two runs as the home team was able to take advantage of four Bulldogs' errors which led to a pair of unearned runs.

Barton was led by senior outfielder Noah Almond (Raleigh, N.C.), who hit a home run and finished with two hits and two runs batted in to lead the Bulldogs offensively. 

On the mound, North Greenville's Logan Chapman (Easley, S.C.) improved to 2-0 after pitching four innings and striking out seven batters while senior Colby Shimmel (Windsor, Pa.) fell to 1-2 after taking the loss.

Barton next hosts Virginia State on Tuesday afternoon beginning at 2:00 p.m., while North Greenville visits Catawba on Tuesday beginning at 3:00 p.m., in Salisbury, N.C.
