Box Score 2 TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Barton College baseball team (7-7, 0-2) opened Conference Carolinas play with a doubleheader setback to North Greenville (12-2-1, 2-0), 6-3 and 3-2, Saturday afternoon at Ashmore Park. The games were originally scheduled to be played at Nixon Field but were moved thanks to snowy weather earlier in the week.
Game One – North Greenville 6, Barton 3
Trailing by a 3-2 score entering the bottom of the eighth inning, the Crusaders rallied with four runs which included the game-winning, two-run home run from John Michael Faile (Boiling Springs, S.C.) and a two-run double from Brady West (Rockford, Ill.). Both players finished with three runs batted in.
Barton sophomore third baseman Tyler Robinson (Beaver Falls, Pa.) and senior outfielder Noah Almond (Raleigh, N.C.) drove in runs while freshman Gentry Fortuno (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) (2-1) suffered the loss despite going the distance and striking out seven batters.
For North Greenville, Brent Herlong (Lake View, S.C.) (1-0) earned the win after pitching two scoreless innings in relief while Ryan Kirk (Kannapolis, N.C.) pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his third save of the year.
Game Two – North Greenville 3, Barton 2 (seven innings)
The Crusaders' Jeremy Whitehead (Huntersville, N.C.) hit the walk-off, RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs to propel North Greenville to the sweep.
Barton senior outfielder Trevor Edior (Los Angeles, Calif.) hit a two-run home run for the Bulldogs in the third frame – his second of the season – but the visitors were left off the scoreboard the rest of the way. North Greenville's Christian Ryder (Acworth, Ga.) (2-0) earned the win while junior Alex Hart (Raleigh, N.C.) fell to 0-3 after taking the loss. Both pitchers went the distance.
The two teams will wrap up the weekend series with a single game on Sunday beginning at 1:00 p.m.
