Box Score PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Barton baseball team (28-18) rallied from a three-run deficit to down UNC Pembroke (19-23), 8-7, Tuesday night at Sammy Cox Field.
Trailing by a 7-5 score heading into the top of the ninth inning, the Bulldogs plated three runs including the game-winning, two-run double from junior shortstop JoJo Allen (Clarksville, Tenn.) with two outs. Barton also avenged a 21-4 loss to UNC Pembroke at home on Tuesday, February 12, at Nixon Field.
Barton senior catcher Juan Martinez (Weston, Fla.) hit his team-leading seventh home run of the season while freshman Brett Widerman (Wilmington, N.C.) (1-0) earned the win in relief and sophomore Colby Warren (Roanoke Rapids, N.C.) notched his third save of the year after pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
For UNC Pembroke, Ethan Baucom (Rockingham, N.C.) hit his national-leading 20th home run oo the year and drove in three runs while Brandon Winstead (Elm City, N.C.) fell to 1-6 after suffering the loss. The Braves also committed seven errors which led to five unearned runs as the home team couldn't hold a 7-4 advantage.
Barton returns to Conference Carolinas play on Friday in a doubleheader at home against Southern Wesleyan beginning at 1:00 p.m., while UNC Pembroke faces Flagler in Saint Augustine, Fla., in a Peach Belt Conference game at 6:00 p.m., on Thursday.
