WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's tennis team (11-8, 6-2) closed out the home portion of its regular season in style with a 7-0 victory over Lees-McRae (6-17, 1-7) Monday morning at The Greenfield School in a Conference Carolinas match.
The Bulldogs failed to lose a match while the trio of sophomores Diego Agudelo (Bogata, COLOMBIA) and Oscar Marmestedt (Akersberga, SWEDEN) and junior Rory Gaydon (Darlington, ENGLAND) all won at both singles and doubles play today.
Marmestedt's victory at third singles might have been the most exciting with a 4-6, 7-5 and 10-5 rally over Lees-McRae's Fitzgerald Lomp. Meanwhile, Gaydon and sophomore Hugh Ryder (Dartmouth, ENGLAND) increased their winning streak as a doubles' tandem to six with a 6-3 victory over the Bobcats' Matt Meluch (Statesville, N.C.) and James Kirkham (Melbourne, AUSTRALIA).
Barton closes out the regular season with a league match against Limestone in Gaffney, S.C., on Friday beginning at 11:00 a.m., while Lees-McRae hosts Limestone on Saturday at Noon.
