Box Score

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton baseball team (24-18) fell to Lenoir-Rhyne (21-21) by a 6-2 score Wednesday evening in a non-conference regional contest at Fleming Stadium.

Lenoir-Rhyne jumped out to a 5-0 advantage after the first two innings of play while Austin Reed (Apopka, Fla.) and Matthew Freeman (Belews Creek, N.C.) both hit home runs for the visitors, who increased their winning streak to five games.

Reed finished with three hits and two runs batted in for the Bears, who avenged a 9-4 loss to the Bulldogs on Wednesday, February 6.  Lenoir-Rhyne's Kevin LaRosa (Orange Park, Fla.) (2-1) earned the win in relief.

Barton freshman outfielder Jacob Marcos (Miami, Fla.) and senior designated hitter Juan Martinez (Weston, Fla.) drove in runs but the Bulldogs stranded 13 runners while freshman Connor Patterson (Randleman, N.C.) fell to 1-3 after being tagged with the loss.

Barton will look to bounce back when the Bulldogs return to Conference Carolinas play on Friday at 2:30 p.m., against Emmanuel (Ga.) in Franklin Springs, Ga.  Lenoir-Rhyne hosts Wingate on Friday night beginning at 6:00 p.m.
