GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Barton baseball team (22-16, 10-6) suffered a 6-2 road loss to Limestone (11-22, 6-10) Friday evening in a Conference Carolinas weekend series opener at FCU Founders Stadium.

Barton sophomore first baseman Colby Warren (Roanoke Rapids, N.C.) and senior designated hitter Juan Martinez (Weston, Fla.) hit back-to-back home runs in the top of the fourth inning to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 advantage but the Saints responded with a three-run fifth frame to take the lead for good.

Limestone's Benjamin Huber (Pendleton, S.C.) came through with the game-winning, two-run single in the inning which broke a two-all tie.  Huber and Trace Whetsell (Gilbert, S.C.) both finished with three hits and two runs batted in to lead the Saints.

Limestone's Peyton MacPherson (Cumming, Ga.) earned the win and improved to 3-5 on the year after limiting the Bulldogs to just two runs over seven innings of work while striking out nine batters.  Barton junior Colby Shimmel (Windsor, Pa.) (3-3) was tagged with the loss.  Martinez now has a team-high five home runs on the year for the Bulldogs.

The two teams will wrap up the weekend series with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at Noon.
