Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton College baseball team (22-12, 10-5) continued to rise quickly in the Conference Carolinas standings with a doubleheader sweep of King (Tenn.) (10-15, 5-8), 10-7 and 7-1, Saturday afternoon in a doubleheader at Nixon Field.  The Bulldogs have now won five straight league games.

Game One – Barton 10, King 7 (seven innings)
Barton senior catcher Juan Martinez (Miami, Fla.) broke a five-all tie in the bottom of the fourth inning with the game-winning, three-run home run and finished with four RBI in the victory.

Senior third baseman Gatlin Pate (Grays Creek, N.C.) – the hero for the Bulldogs in the victory the day before – continued his hot streak with three hits and two runs batted in while senior Andrew Davis (Westminster, Md.) (1-0) earned the win in relief and sophomore Colby Warren (Roanoke Rapids, N.C.) pitched a scoreless final inning for his second save of the year.

King was led by David Carnicella (Loxahatchee, Fla.) with two hits and two runs batted in while Rob Sari (High Point, N.C.) fell to 1-2 on the year after suffering the loss.

In addition, senior starter Dylan Ward (Laurinburg, N.C.) became the school's all-time career leader in strikeouts with 254 for Barton after striking out three in the contest.

Game Two – Barton 7, King 1
Barton junior Jakob Ryan (Carrollton, Va.) (3-3) struck out 17 batters and allowed just one run while earning the complete game victory.

The Bulldogs broke a one-all tie with a three-run fourth inning to take the lead for good courtesy of a game-winning, run-scoring single from junior designated hitter Brayden Olson (Spokane, Wash.) and a two-run home run from junior outfielder Trevor Edior (Los Angeles, Calif.).  Olson finished with two runs batted in while senior second baseman Hunter Pearre (Poolesville, Md.) added three hits and an RBI triple in the victory.

King's lone run came on a sacrifice fly from Tony Valdes (Miami, Fla.) in the third frame but Drew Moore (Virginia Beach, Va.) fell to 0-2 after taking the loss.

Barton hits the road to take on Limestone on Friday in a conference game in Gaffney, S.C., at 6:00 p.m., while King faces Mars Hill on Tuesday in Mars Hill, N.C., beginning at 3:00 p.m.
