Barton baseball falls to Queens, 6-5, on the road in mid-week contest

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – The Barton baseball team (19-12) suffered a close setback to Queens (6-18), 6-5, Tuesday evening at Intimidators Stadium. 

The Royals walked off the game with the win when Anthony Orta (San Juan, PUERTO RICO) scored on a Bulldog error with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning.

The Bulldogs rallied from a 5-2 deficit to tie the contest when junior shortstop Shawn Harrison (Queens, N.Y.) scored on a wild pitch in the top of the eighth inning.  Barton was led by freshman outfielder Jacob Marcos (Miami, Fla.) with four hits and two runs scored while senior outfielder Troy Maslowski (Cary, N.C.) added two hits and an RBI double in the losing effort.

Queens' Noah Jones (Chapel Hill, N.C.) finished with three hits and two runs scored while Tanner Jacobson (Pittsburgh, Pa.) (1-0) earned the win in relief after pitching a scoreless ninth inning.  Barton sophomore Colby Warren (Roanoke Rapids, N.C.) fell to 1-4 after being tagged with the loss.  The Bulldogs did strike out 14 batters in the contest.

Barton returns to Conference Carolinas play on Friday against King at Nixon Field beginning at 2:30 p.m., while Queens takes on Winston-Salem State on Wednesday in Winston-Salem, N.C., at 6:00 p.m.
